George Harry Beach was born
on September 21, 1907, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Harry and Alice Beach.
He lived in Sioux Falls all of his life and was familiarly known as “Bud” by
many of his friends. On June 10, 1934, George married Gladys Bielski. They had
two children: Robert Harry and Joanne Marjorie. George was active in civic
affairs, was a member of the Minnehaha Country Club, the Kiwanis Club, and Unity
Lodge No. 130, A.F. & A.M. Before enlisting in the army, George was the
Vice-President and manager of Will A. Beach Printing Company in Sioux Falls.
George Harry Beach enlisted
in the army on July 15, 1942, and trained at Lawry Field in Denver, Colorado.
Lieutenant Beach entered military service as a ground crew officer of the army
air forces.
Lieutenant George Harry
Beach, Jr. was killed in a plane crash in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Thursday,
October 1, 1942. He was one of the twenty-two soldiers who died in this plane
crash.
Lieutenant George Harry
Beach’s life and death will always be looked upon with respect and admiration.
He will always be remembered for the sacrifices he made for his country.
