Killed in Action in Germany
Leonard Warren Acker was born in Clark,
South Dakota, on December 17, 1921. Leonard was the tenth of thirteen children
born to Warren Robert Acker and Nancy Mabel Chase Acker. Leonard attended
school at Lily Public School and graduated in 1940. He worked on the family
farm until he entered the service.
Leonard entered the army in September of
1942 and was sent overseas in 1944. He was attached to the 407th
Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division. He took part in the
Battle of the Bulge.
On April 11, 1945 Sergeant Leonard Acker
was killed in action in Germany. He was buried at Plot L, Row 17, Grave 20,
Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraaten, Holland. For his bravery, Sgt.
Acker was awarded the Purple Heart.
