Killed in Airplane Accident in Alaska
Coast Guard Radioman First Class Arthur Boeke, 34, was killed in an airplane
accident on July 21, 1943, according to a small notice in the Daily Republic.
His sister, Mrs. W.R. Ball, lived in Mitchell and Arthur, who had “formerly
resided near Huron” often visited her.
Boeke, a first class radioman of the flying patrol
squadron of the coast guard, was a member of a
crew flying on a special mission over the Aleutians.
The plane flew into a mountain and all six members
were killed including Major Gen. Upshire, commander
of the marine corps of the Pacific area.
