Died of Illness at Charleston, South Carolina
Harley D. Castle was born June 20, 1921, at Sioux Falls,
South Dakota, to Ory and Bessie Castle. Raised and educated in Sioux Falls,
Harley graduated from high school in May of 1941.
On July 9, 1941, Harley Castle entered active service at
Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. After his training, Staff Sergeant Castle was sent
overseas on November 28, 1942, where he served as an armorer.
After two years overseas, Staff Sergeant Harley Castle was
shipped back to the United States on November 11, 1944. The next day, November
12, 1944, Harley Castle died of pneumonia at Stark General Hospital, Charleston,
His body was returned to South Dakota, and he was buried
with military honors at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
