Herbert Allan Chase

Died Non-Battle at Lake Charles, Louisiana
Herbert Allan Chase was born July 22, 1917, at Luverne,
Iowa, to Christian and Rosa Chase. The family later moved to Fedora, Miner
County, South Dakota. Before entering the service, Herbert worked for his father
and also in Algona, Iowa.
On August 21, 1942, Herbert Chase entered active service at
Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. After training, Pfc. Chase was attached to the military
police at a prisoner of war camp at Camp Polk, Louisiana.
Private First Class Herbert Chase, Guard Detachment, 1880th
Service Command Unit, died on April 19, 1945, at Lake Charles, Louisina, of “a
gunshot wound.” His body was returned to South Dakota and a funeral and military
burial were held at Fedora.
