Died of Accidental Gunshot Wounds in California
Raymond R. Baker was born April 3, 1903, at
Redfield, South Dakota, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker. Raymond, who was an only
son, attended Redfield schools and later worked for Milwaukee Railroad until he
entered the service.
In September of 1942, Raymond Baker was
inducted into the service. A private in the Ordnance Company, Baker was
stationed at Hammer Field, Fresno, California.
On March 31, 1943, Private Raymond Baker died
of “accidental gun shot wound at 7:30 in the morning.”
The body of Raymond Baker was returned to
South Dakota, and he was buried with military honors at the Greenlawn Cemetery
in Redfield. He was survived by his parents and his sister, Mrs. Inez Nelson.
