No, the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home is not staffed for, and does not receive aid for veterans from the Veterans Administration in an assisted living community.
3. What does it cost to live at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home?
The cost for Residential Living at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home is the following:  Residents living in an Independent Living Neighborhood (Residential Living Service - RLS) that have assets above $50,000 pay $109.34 per day per person.  Below $50,000 in assets a single resident pays 50% of their gross income and couples pay 55% of their combined income.

Activities -- There is an Activities Coordinator at the South Dakota Veterans Home that organizes the events and activities based on what the residents would like to do for the month.
5. Where can I get an application and who can help me complete the application?
Applications and assistance can be obtained by calling or visiting your Tribal/County Veterans Service Officer or by contacting/visiting the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home. Once I am approved and there is not an apartment available, is there a waiting list? The Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home has a waiting list for each level of care.
6. Is there smoking on the grounds of the facility?
Smoking is prohibited on campus grounds.
7. Are pets allowed at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home?
Pets are not allowed.
8. How many vehicles are allowed on the premises?
One vehicle per resident and the resident must register their vehicle with the Home’s secretary and receive a resident parking pass.
9. Is there storage available at the facility?
Residents are allowed two storage totes for off season clothing and extra items.
